Fleet Manager's Guide to Multi-Temperature Reefers

How to think through zones, bulkheads, airflow, setpoints, and cargo mix before ordering a multi-temperature install.

Fleet Manager's Guide to Multi-Temperature Reefers

Map the freight before the hardware

A multi-temperature build should begin with route manifests. Frozen, chilled, and ambient products need different airflow patterns, and the bulkhead layout should match how drivers load and unload throughout the day.

Airflow is the difference-maker

The unit can only hold temperature if air can move. Shelving, pallets, curtains, and door habits should be reviewed before the installation so the evaporator is not fighting blocked returns or short-cycling air paths.

Keep controls simple for drivers

The best multi-zone configuration is one the driver can verify quickly. Clear labels, reasonable setpoint rules, and simple pre-trip checks reduce claims and shorten dock time.
